Nicholas Kontaxis: ‘Catch Me’ at B&E Goulandris

THE B&E GOULANDRIS FOUNDATION is currently hosting the temporary exhibition “Catch Me” by internationally acclaimed Greek-American artist Nicholas Kontaxis which runs until May 18. Through art, Nicholas Kontaxis has been able to communicate with the world, to express himself, to battle his state of health and in the process, to develop his unique form of abstract expressionism.

The exhibition “Catch Me”, a celebration of the power of human will and inclusion, brings to Greece for the first time the work and story of artist and Forbes 30 Under 30 honouree Nicholas Kontaxis, who has transformed the challenges of his life into an explosive artistic language filled with strength, emotion and optimism.

Nicholas, living with severe physical and developmental challenges and having experienced over 75,000 seizures, uses art as his only means of expression, creating large-scale works that convey a global message of resilience and inspiration.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a recreation of Nicholas’ original studio, while at the heart of the exhibition stands the signature trampoline artwork – once a rehabilitation tool, now transformed into a canvas. Symbolising solidarity and renewal, it invites the audience to see life with fresh eyes and courage.

Throughout the duration of the exhibition, in collaboration with the Nevronas team, accessibility services will be provided for selected works, specifically sign language interpretation for the deaf and hard of hearing and audio descriptions for individuals with visual impairments (in Greek). You can scan the QR codes next to the corresponding works to view the sign language interpretation and listen to their audio descriptions.

During the “Catch Me” exhibition, guided tours will take place every Friday from 18:30 to 19:00(in Greek). Private and group tours can also be scheduled upon request.

As part of the exhibition, two educational programmes for children will be offered (in Greek): the creative workshop “Catch the emotion” (for ages 5 to 7, Saturdays 10.00-11.15) and “Ode to colour” (for ages 8 to 12, Saturdays 11.45-13.15).

Additionally, the Foundation’s specially designed programme “Mindfulness at the Museum” will take place at the temporary exhibition gallery on Fridays March 21, April 4 and 25 as well as May 9. The programme is a collaboration with art historian, art educator and mindfulness instructor Lydia Petropoulou and each session will focus on a different work by Kontaxis (in Greek).

Finally, the Foundation’s specially designed activity “Games for Adults”, for people aged 60+ and persons with Mild Cognitive Impairment, will be held at the temporary exhibition gallery on Fridays April 4 and 11 and May 2, 9 and 16, inviting participants to explore the deeply personal abstract expressionism of Nicholas Kontaxis (in Greek).
