ON MAY 14, TSANTILIS ART GALLERY proudly unveils a rare and long-awaited tribute to the iconic master of modern Greek painting, Theodoros Manolidis. A master of of a mythical hyperrealism, applied to themes which deal with still-lifes inspired by Greek and ancient Greek culture, Manolidis’s paintings with their seductive colours and intricate designs have captured the attention of artlovers worldwide. His solo exhibition of works at Tsantilis Art Gallery offers visitors a rare opportunity to see a wide range of his masterpieces up close, and to marvel at his detailed mastery and rich colour combinations. The exhibition opening is on May 14, and runs till May 24. However a selection of works by Manolidis will still be on view after the exhibition.

Born in Athens in 1940, Manolidis studied under Yannis Moralis at the Athens School of Fine Arts and continued at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His style fuses surrealism with Byzantine mysticism, creating dramatic scenographic effects and optical illusions. His work has been widely exhibited and auctioned by Christie’s and Sotheby’s.

Manolidis has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad, including the following venues: Galerie Paul Facchetti, Paris (1975, 1991) and Zurich (1975, 1977, 1991), Allan Frumkin Gallery, New York (1979), Marlborough Gallery (Monaco, 2004).

The exhibition comprises works from different creative periods, offering an opportunity for viewers to experience the transcendental power of this artist’s ‘gaze’. The exhibition is being realised with the love and support of the artist’s children, Alexandros and Theodora-Olympia Manolidi, in collaboration with Tsantilis Art Gallery.
