Exploring Kosmopoulou’s ‘Ikebana’: Art Exhibition & Stories

VICKY KOSMOPOULOU is a psychologist and a writer. Her third book (in Greek), has the title of ‘Ikebana’, and it gathers together 26 short stories of extremity: about what can push people to go too far (circumstances, emotions, psychology). The word Ikebana  refers to the art of Japanese flower arrangement, which in the Japanese language, means ‘bringing flowers to life’. In the context of Kosmopoulou’s new book, the writer brings to life via her carefully composed prose, these ‘flowers of extremity’ from various people’s lives. To celebrate her new book, Kosmopoulou has organized an art exhibition, with works by 19 artists who have been inspired by her book Ikebana. It is the third group exhibition inspired by the books of Vicky Kosmopoulou, and will be presented at the Match Point Arts N’ More gallery (Ainianos 1 / Pedio Areos – Victoria Square) from March 27 to April 5, 2026.

The Ikebana exhibition includes paintings, photography, sculptures made of wood and metal, installations, video projections, mixed media, watercolors, oils, acrylics, ceramics, and digital design.

A few words about the book

Ikebana – a collection of prose: 26 short stories. People pushed to extremes by loss, greed, despair, love, passion, idleness, loneliness, vanity… Confessions and apologies, stories balancing between the real and the imaginary, speak of decay and imperfection, actions and omissions. Ikebana purifies evil in its silence.

A stained mattress, a roulette on red, small cups in the Athens metro, colorful cranes on nails, a light blue notebook, a gold tooth, a photograph with breath, a pink bottle, snowflakes with lipstick, a plate made of ice, ropes for salvation, a phone call about nothing, clown socks in a mouth, a pool for counting, a whole cut in half, a mad lighting technician, a root with a compass, and a mark in a vase that purifies evil in the silence of Ikebana… Stories of extremity in short and longer prose.
