First public museum filled with female art

THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART (EMST) launched the 4th and final part of the exhibition cycle ‘What if women ruled the world?’ on Thursday June 13, in Athens, Greece. Seven new exhibitions are now included, such as the solo exhibition of the well-known Iranian painter Tala Madani, the first in a European museum after more than ten years, and the first presentation in Greece of the important British sculptor Phyllida Barlow, which has been realized in collaboration with NEON and the D. Daskalopoulos Collection. Also, a new installation by Eva Stefani has been added, which is a special order of the Museum. There are also presentations of works by Bouchra Khalili and Susan Meiselas, plus the first presentation of a series of unknown drawings by Eleni Pitari-Pangalou.  As part of the cycle, EMST also launched a new program, SPOTLIGHT, which will highlight in greater depth the practice of an artist in its collection, starting with the work of Bertille Bak.

With the opening of the 4th part of this particular exhibition cycle ‘What if Women Ruled the World?’, EMST will have presented a total of 18 individual exhibitions, installations and projects, highlighting the work of 40 artists, of different ages and origins, capturing with the plurality of their voices the interdisciplinary side of feminism and the diversity of women’s experiences and identities, according to race and class.

The opening of the fourth part is significant because it represents the moment when EMST is occupied entirely by female artists – something that happens for the first time in a public museum internationally.

To celebrate the opening, a concert also took place on the EMST rooftop, curated by Franziska Lantz and featuring live performances by Acidic Male, Zevla and Franziska Lantz, inviting guests on a deep journey into electronic dance music.
