THE SEA has played a pivotal role in the history of Greek art, and contemporary Greek artists also continue to gain inspiration from its many facets. On Friday, May 26, 2023, the group exhibition of painting and sculpture entitled ‘The sea that I loved’ opens at the Kapsiotis gallery in Piraeus.

The Homeric “wine-dark sea”, the erotic sea of Elytis, the journeying, restless sea of Kavvadias, the “only love” of Karyotakis, the mysterious and dangerously charming sea of Christianopoulos, the talking sea of Cavafy, becomes a source of inspiration for 30 renowned visual artists who with their chosen mediums and unique expressive means praise our eternal love for the endless blue.
Symbol of freedom, separation, journey, beauty, hope, joy and expectations. The sea and its eternal beauty is an unquenchable and eternal love deeply rooted in the hearts of all Greeks, deeply rooted their history.
The exhibition is held as part of the ‘Sea Days’ events organized for the ninth consecutive year by the municipality of Piraeus and will be inaugurated by the mayor of Piraeus, Yiannis Moralis, at 7:30 p.m.
