STOA PROJECT ATHENS returns to the historic center of the city with its new action, STOA 02, a contemporary art exhibition that activates the shop windows of Evripidou Arcade and Praxitelous Street. Two years after its successful first edition at Orfanidou Arcade, the project re-emerges with a new group of artists, aiming to bring contemporary artistic creation into direct dialogue with the vibrant commercial fabric of Athens.
For eight days, the shop windows become unexpected exhibition spaces. The artists’ works coexist with products, commercial activities, and the unique character of each store, creating new conditions for viewing and experiencing art.
The small yet distinctive Evripidou Arcade, connecting Evripidou Street with Praxitelous, becomes the starting point of an artistic route where art meets passersby, visitors, professionals, and residents of the area. The exhibition unfolds primarily along Praxitelous Street, a road marked by strong commercial and multicultural identity. There, the artworks acquire a different dimension through the light of the windows, reflections, bodily movement, and the continuous flow of the city.
STOA 02 proposes an open and accessible exhibition format in which art is not confined to conventional gallery spaces but becomes organically embedded in everyday life. It explores the relationship between art and public space, the notion of the shop window as a threshold between private and public realms, and the unpredictable encounter between viewer and artwork.
At the same time, the project seeks to highlight the dynamic character of Athens’ historic commercial center by activating spaces not typically associated with contemporary artistic practice. In doing so, STOA PROJECT ATHENS continues its investigation into urban arcades and commercial streets as places of transition, encounter, and cultural exchange.
