The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. This can be observed in the lovely full-body portrait paintings by Petros Karavevas – a student of Yiorgos Rorris – who has carried on his teacher’s passion for painting from life, exploring reality and the human character. The show with Karavevas’ works opened to the public on October 8, at the Artzone 42 gallery (42, Vasileos Georgiou Ave, tel 210-725-9549, www.artzone42.gr). Runs till October 31.
At the Zoumboulakis gallery on Kolonaki square, the show ‘#Instantane2015’ will be inaugurated on October 15 (runs till November 7). Here, a collection of instagram photos by professional photographers and amateurs will be presented to the public.
But if you’re looking for something especially dark and spooky for the Halloween season, how about heading down to the Kappatos Gallery (www.kappatosgallery.com), where Yiorgos Papafigos’ macabre, surreal images will be presented also on October 15 (12 Athinas St, near Monastiraki station, runs till November 27). This is the young artist’s first solo show, but as you can see from the work below, Papafigos can create some intriguingly mysterious paintings that combine images taken from myth, fantasy and dream. Pretty interesting don’t you think? ‘Heart of darkness’ kind of stuff…
