The pandemic’s universal flux

The exhibition ‘Universal Flux (Meta-Corona Era) at the artzone42 gallery, has us thinking of what the world will be like, after the pandemic is over. Will the post-Corona era be a continuation of the world as it was before? Or will we be witnessing a new future? The pandemic has certainly made us think of what our lives have been made up of up till now, and how we have evolved. Since we have been living in this ‘warzone’ of sorts, caused by the virus, and from which we desperately want to be freed from, we have been asking ourselves if the future is ours and if we have the strength to adapt to new social norms. The development of the current situation, often seems to be beyond our control.  Simultaneously, the rapid progress of technology finds us facing a new global order.

The artists in this exhibition have presented very different views on the subject, of what it will be like, after. From the ecologically-minded perspective of Stella Sevastopoulos’s idyllic landscape, untainted by pollution, to Dimitra Griva’s abstract depiction of a bleeding earth. From the mashing up of images, whether it be a face in the case of Xanthi Tsaloupi’s work, or a collision between a window’s reflection and what’s behind it, in the case of Eleni Papanikolaou’s work, we are witnessing new realities, new ‘mixes’. The ‘before’ and ‘after’ are also mixed in the work of Stathis Mavridis, who combines images of catastrophe and paradise and asks us to figure out which came first. Nikos Chiotinis on the other hand, lines up people in his work. Where are they waiting to go? To the other world maybe? Religious undertones are also stitched into the work of Mike Vira, who has literally embroidered on his canvases, images of the Virgin Mary.

Certainly an interesting mix of images art to be found in this exhibition, that will leave you with plenty of food for thought!
