INSPIRED BY the poetry of Elytis, but also the body culture that goes hand-in-hand with the long Greek summer, exhibition organizer Dimitris Lazarou has gathered together an exciting group of artworks by talented artists, in order to create “Body of Summer”. This exhibition takes its name from the moving poem by Nobel Prize-winning poet Odysseas Elytis, an excerpt of which you may find below:
… O body of summer, naked, burned
Consumed by oil and salt
Body of rock and shiver of the heart
Great waving of the tamarisk hair
Breath of basil above the curly pubis
Filled with little stars and pine needles
Deep-bodied vessel of the day!…
“Body of Summer” (excerpt) – Odysseas Elytis

The group art exhibition “Body of Summer” presents works of painting, iconography, and photography in the historic venue of the Hellenic-French Association, in the heart of Athens, in Kolonaki (Filikis Etaireias Sq. 2, 4th floor).
The exhibition is conceived, organized, and communicated by educator and visual arts exhibition organizer Dimitris Lazarou and will run until Saturday, June 6, 2026.
The exhibition opens on Tuesday, May 26, from 5–9 p.m.
The exhibition reflects the relationship between human beings and the Mediterranean landscape, light, and the concept of freedom, as contemporary and distinguished visual artists attempt to define or redefine Summer, its meaning, significance, and influence on the human psyche. The ultimate aim of the exhibition is for the artworks to become a mirror of a summer that visitors have experienced or wish to experience.

The exhibition features 13 distinguished contemporary visual artists:
Jocasta M. – Aimilios Gasparis – Maria D. Georga – Katerina Perimeni – Maria Korda – Maria Liakopoulou – Evangelia Liaskou – Eleni Marathou – Christos Movidis – Giota Aliki Bitsaki – Sofia Naki – Elisavet Protosyngellou – Thodoris Tryfillis
